What will future arctic societies understand about our present? It largely depends on what will be found in the archives.
Indigenous people and minorities are not easy to find in the archives. Women, children and non-binary are even less present. This is a democratic challenge that concerns us all. Without representation and visibility in the archives our historical knowledge becomes less diverse, reliable and informed. If we do not act now, the representation will be worse in a hundred years.
This workshop, inspired by Stockholm Museum of Women’s history, is mainly focused on lifting indigenous and minority women and their narratives about past and present. We will share knowledge about how to find, preserve, and organise private archives for the future. We will also seek inspiration from existing archival collections from women and their organisations in Västerbotten.
Space is limited so participants are encouraged to register in advance at: info@folkrorelsearkivet.se.
The workshop is part of the Arctic Arts Summit and a collaboration between The Archive of Popular Movements in Västerbotten, the Forest and Saami Museum in Lycksele and Várdduo, Umeå University and with support from Umeå kommun.
